| December 2 Mon LOS ANGELES: 2:50pm departure from LAX on Lufthansa Flight 457. ![]() 3 Tue FRANKFURT - ROTHENBURG-ob-der-TAUBER: Arrive Frankfurt at 10:30am. Meet our driver, Wolfgang, who has piloted our private deluxe coach on several of our tours. Visit the superb Baroque Residenz Palace in Wűrzburg on our way to the quaint medieval town of Rothenburg, still completely surrounded by its ancient wall. Dinner at our hotel, the Klosterstueble, located in the center of the old town. Breakfast, Dinner 4 Wed ROTHENBURG: A morning walking tour and the rest of the day free to explore the city, walk the wall, visit the museums, browse in the shops and enjoy the atmosphere of this lovely old town. Breakfast 5 Thu ROTHENBURG - NÜRNBERG: It's a short drive to Nűrnberg, which boasts Germany’s largest Christkindlesmarkt, where we will have an afternoon walking tour of the old town. Overnight at the Burg Hotel, in the center of the old town. Sample the traditional food for sale at the Christmas Market or one of the many restaurants nearby. Breakfast 6 Fri NÜRNBERG:
Excursion today to nearby Bamburg,
a great
episcopal city of the 16C. Our walking tour
includes the unusual old Town Hall built on a bridge over the Main
River and the elegant double-apsed Cathedral, a treasure house of
German
baroque art. Special attractions to be seen only at Christmastime
are the Christmas Crib Displays (Bamburger Krippenweg), highly
original and decorative scenes which may be seen in churches, squares
and museums throughout the town.

serving hearty German food and great

Dinner7 Sat NÜRNBERG - SALZBURG: A drive along the Danube to Regensburg to walk across the river on the 900 year old bridge and see its Christkindlesmarkt. We also visit the little village of Oberndorf, where "Silent Night" was first sung on Christmas Eve in 1818 accompanied by a guitar because the organ was broken. Dinner at our hotel, the Elefant, located near the Getreidegasse, the walking street in the center of the old town. Breakfast, Dinner ![]() 8 Sun SALZBURG: Listen to the Sunday morning advent music in the great cathedral before setting out to explore the city, or you might want to join the famous "Sound of Music" Tour (optional). The day is yours to browse in the Christkindlesmarkt, explore the markets and shops along the Getreidegasse, visit the birthplace of Mozart or take the funicular up to Hohensalzburg Fortress. Tonight a special holiday concert and tour. Breakfast, Dinner 9 Mon SALZBURG - MUNICH: An early start for our drive on the scenic German Alpine Road, pausing to view the lovely Wieskirche. Then on to the most famous landmark in Germany, Neuschwanstein Castle, built by Ludwig II in the 1880’s. Late afternoon arrival at our Munich hotel, the Falkenturm, 5 minutes from the "walking street" in the old town. Dinner at the Ratskeller. Breakfast, Dinner ![]() ![]() 10 Tue MUNICH: Morning tour of the city including Nyphenburg Castle and a walking tour of the oldtown. The afternoon is free to explore the nearby Christkindlesmarkt, the department stores and boutiques. Enjoy caroling this evening in front of the Gothic town hall and an organ concert in the Frauenkirche. Breakfast 11 Wed MUNICH: You are on your own to visit Munich's world-class museums - the Old and the New Pinakothek (paintings), the Glyptothek (sculpture), the National Bavarian Museum, (Christmas Creches and handicrafts) and the Deutsches Museum (science and industry). Don't miss the beautifully restored Residence Palace. This evening, a farewell Christmas feast at the Spatenhaus Restaurant. comfortable, centrally located and family owned. They do not have
some of the accoutrements of the big chains such as porter service. Some of them are located on small streets where the bus cannot go. It is important that you pack light and are you able to handle your own luggage. |
